Octane 2 announced

At the recent NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference Otoy previewed version 2 of their unbiased GPU renderer, expected to be released in April. Also announced was application support for After Effects that enables users to import, edit and render 3d scenes in real-time, due later this year. Features of version 2 include:

  • Displacement mapping
  • Object motion blur
  • A new hair and fur primitive
  • Pixar's OpenSubDiv surfaces supported
  • Rounded edges shader effect
  • Randomise colour on instances
  • Improved sky rendering that includes the use of textures as sky background
  • Region rendering
  • Distributed rendering (on same frame)
  • Presets for new display types including VR devices like the Occulus Rift
  • Compatibility with Brigade, Otoy's cloud rendering games technology
