(Updated) Hair.Basic is compatible with Ornatrix/Hairtrix, their styling and rendering tools can be used to further work with Hair.Basic's results.
Ephere, who developed Ornatrix some time ago, is offering a new free set of tools for hair creation. An alpha version of the software has been released. Sample video and more info at Ephere.com.
