According to unconfirmed sources Autodesk would replace box shipments with software downloads in 2010 when delivering software upgrades to the majority of subscription customers.

I can see that happening – they’ve steadily reduced the content to the equivalent of a double DVD case already. It’s a shadow of what we used to get.
Makes it harder to justify localised price differences when it’s just a download.
Nice spangly site BTW.

You know Steve, I agree with you here. I also would like Autodesk to provide the option to buy up-to date disks and manuals after release for what ever it may cost. The overall quality of Max has gone up recently but the documentation of features with Autodesk’s trend toward buying outside software and bundling it in has tanked in some areas. I don’t like having to get my information on how to use a piece of software from a tutorial someone did in their free time because they had to teach themselves. Maybe Autodesk will take the money saved on distribution and put it all into actual video examples of how to use max’s features! OMG a youtube like site for subscribers instead of huge cumbersome help files would be soooo welcome. Autodesk’s “How to’ site needs tons more work.
